Volunteers are vital to the success and growth of FHSA. We are seeking passionate Head Start staff from all program areas to help guide our association’s work by serving on one of our committees. Your experience and leadership strengthen FHSA and help advance Head Start’s mission across Florida.

Serving on an FHSA committee is a meaningful way to make your professional community stronger. Committees typically meet monthly by conference call, making it easy to participate no matter where you are located.

  • Advocacy Committee - The Advocacy Committee is responsible for supporting the mission, vision, purpose, and strategic plan of the Association. FHSA is dedicated to the issues that affect Head Start. As a state-level organization, we are a close-knit, collaborative community, and we celebrate daily the many successes that each Florida Head Start program provides for Florida's families.

Chair: Tanya Stone

  • Awards Committee- The Awards Committee works in partnership with the Region IV Head Start Association (RIVHSA) on the development and implementation of the annual awards program. The committee is responsible for establishing a nomination and selection process and ratify state nominations to RIVHSA. 

Co-Chairs: Michelle Hann

  • By-Laws Committee - responsible for creating and maintaining the organization's bylaws, which is the set of rules that guide FHSA operations and activities.
Chairs: Terri Barlow and Mary Muniz-Pellicer
  • Finance Committee - shall prepare an annual budget, recommend fees for membership dues, review the Association's financial status, and provide direction and leadership in fundraising efforts in conjunction with the Board of Directors and staff of the Association. 

Chair: LaFonda Heidel, FHSA Treasurer

  • Membership Committee - shall provide direction and leadership to expand membership in the Association, develop and evaluate member services, and review and recommend changes to the Association's Bylaws in conjunction with the Board of Directors and staff of the Association. 

Chair: Sean Murnane, FHSA Vice President

  • Professional Development Committee  shall work in partnership with Florida institutions to aid with articulation, identify funding streams for assisting staff with continuing education, and generally advocate for programs and staff to assist with meeting educational mandates. The Committee shall determine training and technical assistance needs, plan and implement training events in conjunction with The Board of Directors and staff of the Association.

  • Impact & Resource Development Committee-  shall advance FHSA’s mission by documenting, analyzing, and communicating the impact of Head Start and Early Head Start programs across Florida, and by leveraging that evidence to strengthen fundraising, partnerships, and advocacy. Through this integrated approach, the committee advances our shared vision of a future where all Head Start families thrive.
