Here's what you need to know

  1. It's award season. There are only 5 days left to send your nominations to FHSA for its 22-23 Annual Awards program. Deadline is this Friday, June 17, 2022. Click here to get started.

  2. Murray and Kaine Reveal Updated Child Care Proposal, as internal Congressional negotiations continue on an economic reconciliation package, Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) are striving to make sure childcare remains part of the discussion. The new proposal, while pared down from what was originally included in the House-passed Build Back Better Act, would provide critically needed long-term, sustained investments in our childcare and early learning system like providing dedicated funding to raise wages for Head Start teachers and staff. This would provide $12 billion in new funding over 6 years. Zero to Three, June 10, 2022

  3. Our partners at the Institute for Childhood Preparedness work each day to ensure children are as safe and secure as possible. They have launched a brand-new FREE course as part of their Protecting Children Series. The new course, Firearm Safety features the outstanding work of the Aim for Safety initiative from Cook Children's Hospital in Texas.

Some shocking statistics highlight the importance of this topic. For example, did you know:
    • 19 children killed or injured daily due to firearms
    • 1 of 3 homes with kids have guns
    • 1,300 children die yearly due to gun related death

Please visit our COVID-19 Resource page, which is updated regularly, and the FHSA events list for more  information. If there is something else you need guidance on, let us know - we will continue to work with state agencies and partners to answer your questions.

Sincerely,

Wanda Minick
