This presentation will focus on lessons learned from three states (Louisiana, Maryland, and Massachusetts) that intentionally included equity in their funding formulas and how these states are applying lessons learned to other parts of their state’s early childhood system.

The past two years have emphasized the critical role that child care plays in supporting children, families, businesses, and the economy. State-level early care and education agencies are in the process of deploying nearly $39 billion in new funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to stabilize the child care sector and rebuild towards a stronger system that better service children, families, and providers. At least one-third of states incorporated equity into their funding formulas for child care stabilization grants.
Provide an overview how state funding formulas were developed, including how each state leveraged the CDC Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) to intentionally center equity.
Share how their states included support for infants and toddlers as part of the formula.

Discuss the results from implementing funding formulas and lessons learned that each state is applying in other parts of its early childhood system.
