The Florida Head Start Association Announces
Two Newly Elected Members to the Board of Directors

Tallahassee, FL., June 9, 2020 - The Florida Head Start Association (FHSA) is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to the FHSA Board of Directors: Brigette Davis and Gloria Gonazlez. Elections were held June 1 - June 5 to fill the two open Director At Large board seats left vacant after the resignation of Mrs. Angela Doucette- Lyon and Mrs. LaKysha Perskins. The selected candidates will serve out the remaining terms of Mrs. Lyon and Mrs. Perkins with an option to continue to serve in this seat for an additional two more years should they so desire.

The membership elects directors from a slate of self- nominations and vetted by the Nominating Committee in advance of the election to ensure a fair representation of the association and skills.

We are happy to announce these new additions to the FHSA Board of Directors and are excited for the passion and expertise they will bring in helping to lead the association.

Brigette Davis, Associate Director of Head Start/Early Head Start

Children First, Inc., Sarasota

Why do you want to serve on the FHSA Board of Directors?

I want to serve on the FHSA Board of Directors because I view it as a great professional opportunity and asset that will add depth to my career plan. I believe serving with a group of leaders who are as passionate about early childhood education, specifically Head Start and Early Head Start and the high- quality comprehensive services it provides, will expand my community of colleagues. It is a way I, too, can give back to my Head Start community, which has served me well in my professional career since 1987. As a life-long learner, I am curious to learn more things, and board duties will provide a rewarding intellectual challenge! I believe serving on the FHSA board will be a uniquely satisfying experience that I have been seeking at this point in my career.

Gloria Gonzalez, Area Director

Redlands Chrisitan Migrant Association, Immokalee

Why do you want to serve on the FHSA Board of Directors?

It would be an honor to serve on the FHSA Board of Directors. I strongly support the mission of the Florida Head Start Association. I have been working for Redlands Christian Migrant Association, the largest agency in Florida that provides Head Start, Early Head Start and Migrant Head Start comprehensive services to children of low income and migrant families for 16 years. I have seen the positive impact early education services have on children. I was hired as the center director of a Head Start program, and this month, many of the children under my supervision will graduate successfully. These young graduates are graduating with honors, and some are dual-enrolled in college and are also graduating with an AA degree from Florida Southwestern College. When I see their graduation photos, it gives me a great sense of pride that RCMA's Head Start program played a positive role in these young adults' lives. I want to continue to support Head Start centers, and now I would like to be actively involved in the association's board and advocate for our program.
