On September 9 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. EST, the National Head Start Association in partnership with the Children’s Equity Project will host Members of Congress, leading early childhood researchers and a roundtable of early childhood and equity-focused organizations to speak to the promising future of a universal preschool system that leads with equity, quality, accountability, and parent choice.

Speakers will share their research and perspectives, including on how to build on Head Start's 55-year history and existing infrastructure to address the unmet need for high-quality, wraparound support for low-income children and families and seamlessly build Head Start into a universal pre-K system. As Congress debates a robust reconciliation bill that envisions a once-in-a-generation expansion of preschool, the timing is urgent for this conversation.

Please join this discussion to help shape an expanded federal investment in preschool.

Co-Hosts:

  • Yasmina Vinci, Executive Director, National Head Start Association
  • Dr. Shantel Meek, Founding Director, Children’s Equity Project

Speakers:

  • Dr. Walter Gilliam, Director, Edward Zigler Center in Child Development and Social Policy, Yale University
  • Dr. Iheoma Iruka, Founding Director, Equity Research Action Coalition, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Roundtable discussion to follow with leading early childhood and child advocacy organizations.
